Here's how we both make money — fairly and clearly.
Every fee Schedance and Stripe charge is disclosed here. No surprises at payout.
Two fees on every paid booking
When a student pays for a class, two fees are deducted before you receive funds:
- Schedance platform fee — a percentage of the booking amount, based on your plan. This is how Schedance stays running without per-seat or per-feature gotchas.
- Stripe processing fee— charged by Stripe for processing the card payment. For Canadian cards, Stripe's typical rate is 2.9% + 30¢ per transaction. Rates can vary by card type (international cards, corporate cards, and prepaid cards may differ).
Worked examples
All amounts in Canadian dollars (CAD). Stripe rate used: 2.9% + 30¢ for Canadian cards.
When rates vary
| Scenario | Typical Stripe rate | Notes |
|---|---|---|
| Canadian consumer card (Visa, Mastercard) | 2.9% + 30¢ | Most common case for Canadian studios. |
| Canadian corporate or rewards card | 2.9% + 30¢ + card surcharge | Some premium consumer/corporate cards carry a small additional Stripe surcharge. |
| International card (non-Canadian billing address) | 3.9% + 30¢ | Stripe applies a 1% surcharge for international cards. |
| Currency conversion (non-CAD card) | +1.5% on top of international rate | Stripe applies a conversion fee when the card currency differs from the charge currency. |
| Dispute / chargeback | C$15 flat per dispute | Stripe charges a non-refundable dispute fee. The fee is returned if the dispute is won. |
One payment processor for now — more options coming
Schedance currently partners with Stripe to handle studio payments. We're evaluating additional processor options for post-launch — your studio will be able to choose the one that works best for your business. Share your preference →
Refunds
When a booking is fully refunded, the student receives back the full amount they paid. Schedance waives its platform fee on full refunds — you only bear the Stripe processing cost, which Stripe does not return on refunds. Schedance absorbs its share; the Stripe processing fee is the provider's cost on refunds.
